World Tour 2014. Cina - Canton. Interwine 2014 Spring Session

Interwine China (Spring Session) 2014 is the end of our promotional trip that has spanned 3 continents. This event, held every six months, have the participation of  Chinese and foreign wineries, local importers of Hong Kong, as well as national distributors and wholesalers.

The city of Guangzhou (also known as Canton), where Inter Wine take place, has a strategic geographic location in the center of the international trade. At our arrival, in fact, we visited a young and vital city, that want to be in step with the times...make curious and contaminated by Western culture!

The same impression was confirmed during the course of the fair: by our meetings we were able to get an idea of how the wine is experienced by Chinese consumers in everyday life.
Visitors who have approached us at Chianti's stand, were aged between 20 and 30 years old. Much to our surprise, we noticed a great interest in women, powered by the charm of the Italic product (... and of our sommelier Andrea Masi?!?)

Italy, with its cultural and traditional wealth, is considered a charming and exotic places, still poorly understood. The wine culture, so ingrained in our country, it becomes an ideal vehicle to approach and "taste" knowledge and ideas of a place "to explore."
Unfortunately, drink a bottle of Chianti is considered a rare privilege because the imported wine is taxed widely and becomes very costly to the end buyer.

By relating these elements you can easily understand how the Italian wine (and European in general) has become a real status-symbol. At the stand we saw clearly  that people aren't habituated to the mellow and tannic taste of our wine, but are decided to "take possession" of its taste ... motivated to drink a glass of Chianti more from the fashion that from the real pleasure of the palate.

It's also important to note how much our visitors were technologically demanding . It has been particularly enjoyed our QR code printed on all labels and on the stand. This aspect confirms that Chinese are oriented towards online shopping, searching for product information through internet.

Commercially, we are in front of a big challenge: China, despite being a high potential market is actually also highly unstable and the wine trade has to deal with a fluctuating demand. In addition, there are still significant logistical difficulties to clear products and supplies to local warehouses.

China will be able to get a true cultural achievement only stepping up efforts to help people to appreciate and "understand" the wine ... making the price more reasonable, making the chain transparent, facilitating the supply of products from abroad and creating more opportunities to grow the interest and the understanding of this world.

World Tour 2014. U.S.A. - New York City - "Walk around tasting" workshop

The #chianticool style bites the Big Apple. The New York's Standard Hotel, icon of contemporary style, hosted an entire day dedicated to seminars and tastings for trades, operators and journalists.

From 17 p.m. the event has been extended to the public: consumers and wine lovers have had the chance to discover the real taste of Italian wine among more than forty labels offered by the Consortium, including wines "en primeur" and bottles already on the market. In the game of combinations of dishes masterfully executed and glasses of Chianti , the audience was able to roam between different rooms tastefully arranged to discover new flavors or label notes.

The theme of freshness, which is the common thread of all Chianti, due to the presence of Sangiovese, was presented in the tasting, explaining how this freshness can be a trump card to play during a daily meal, matching the wine, from time to time, with increasing quality of dishes ever more complex and articulated.

About tasting "blind", with the bottles without labels, various critics and journalists have given a fair judgment on the quality of the wines, as a real examining committee.

The choice to participate in this event comes from our own interest to promote a quality product, recognizable among all, but at the same time consistent with the tradition of Tuscan wine. This appointment was certainly an excellent opportunity to communicate the "concept of Chianti" not only for wine but also for tourism, culture, art and crafts typical of this area.

At the same time, had represented an example of how the combined efforts of many companies with the same vocation may converge in the realization of an event of cultural significance ... on the other side of the world!

The Consorzio Chianti proves to be a productive and prosperous activity, that looks to the future with a strong commitment of many experts and enthusiasts.
Understand sensitive aspects and details in a common experience like the one we lived in New York is a further step to mature today a valuable experience in the development of land management.
The synergy of the Consorzi of the sub-areas becomes important in order to achieve the "concept of Chianti" with a common strategy in the implementation and promotion of our products.

World Tour 2014. Brasile - San Paolo - ExpoVinis 2014

We talk about ExpoVinis Brazil 2014. Our experience in this fair was certainly exciting and it is not easy to tell: to try to give you an idea is necessary to consider some essential elements.

Our overflown on the production and consumption of wine in the New World is came to end. This pause allows us to update our travel diary and take the forces in view of the final stage in China.

Let's start by looking at the city of São Paulo where the event has been performed and remember that this is the most "Italian" city of Brazil. Developed historically thanks to migration from all parts of Europe, due to the Italian community, the most numerous, a special contribution to the development of his culture.
Also today the Italian community is prosperous: São Paulo, also considering its enormous size, has more people of Italian origin ... of any Italian cities (including Rome and Milan)!!!

ExpoVinis, although a fair smaller (and less specialized) of Vinitaly, however, has attracted a strong public presence. Our stand was visited by a diverse public: winelovers, restaurateurs and traders, importers and specialized journalists.

In this scenery, the Italian presence stood out strongly for its variety of small businesses and micro-zones with very different identities wine ... but all to discover! The Chianti area, the Piedmont and the Emilia Romagna stood as the junctions of other small Italian stand.

Positive comments were also expressed by Emilio Pelizzon, representative of the Agency of Internationalization of Italian business, in this interview, where emphasizes the potential of the Brazilian market for the importation of Italian wines.

The wines of Chianti and their sub-zones have made their first appearance at this fair, the most important and representative for the South American market.

Cantine F.lli Bellini have fully embraced the pioneering spirit of the event, presenting their flagship products (Chianti DOCG, Chianti Rufina Riserva DOCG, Toscana Rosso IGT "Comedìa", Toscana Rosso IGT, Toscana Bianco IGT, Chianti Rufina Riserva DOCG "Podere il Pozzo")  in numerous pleasant, constructive and interesting discussions. Promotional material has been appreciated by many interviewers who wanted to study in deep our consciousness ... we hope that in the next days you can find on the web any feedback of our presence!

Deserve a mention also the tasting organized by the Consorzio Chianti where a renowned Brazilian journalist has described the main concepts of our winemaking tradition. In front of the numerous consumer comments, the impression that emerges is that the Brazilian public traditionally prefers more structured wines, with no particular freshness.

Our promotional activity was concentrated in pointing out that the slight sensation of astringency due to the presence of tannins, easily recognizable in our Chianti Rufina Riserva, is the key to allow the wine to match the same number of traditional Brazilian dishes such as the famous "Rodizio Brasileño."

We have had the greatest praise on our Comedìa IGT, a wine which, thanks to the passage in barriques and to a small percentage of Merlot, turns out to be easier for an audience that is looking for a wine more "sweety", as already pointed out.

As a result of our recommendations, many visitors have told us that they would buy a bottle of Chianti to combine it with a good plate of pasta or grilled meat, showing that they have understand the quality and potential of our wine.

Unfortunately it is not easy to predict some tangible return from our work to the stand (in this, as in any other fair). However, we leave the Latin America satisfied and sure to have pointed out to fly to the United States, where other important commitments expect us : the "Italian Day" at Total Wine & More of Connecticut and the "Chianti Workshop" in New York.
