Vendemmia 2018!

Analizzando l'annata appena trascorsa, il 2018 ha visto una primavera più fresca dell'anno passato e un'estate caratterizzata da numerosi temporali, anche se, fortunatamente, nella nostra zona, non si sono registrate grandinate.

Analyzing this year, 2018 saw a cooler spring of the past year and a summer characterized by numerous storms, even if, fortunately, in our area, there were no hailstorms.

Se l'anno scorso si era dovuti intervenire contro la lunga siccità con un pò di irrigazione di soccorso ma soprattutto con il mantenimento di una folta fogliatura nel filare che schermasse i grappoli dall'eccessiva esposizione ai raggi solari, quest'anno il lavoro è stato opposto. Sono stati effettuati mirati diradamenti del fogliame per tenere i grappoli il più possibile esposti all'aria ed evitare di incorrere in eventuali malattie.

If last year we had to intervene against the long drought with a little irrigation of relief but especially with the maintenance of thick leafs in the rows that shielded the clusters from excessive exposure to sunlight, this year the work was the opposite. Targeted thinning of the foliage has been carried out to keep the grapes as exposed as possible to the air and to avoid any diseases.

Grazie al settembre mite e soleggiato, abbiamo deciso di attendere circa 15 giorni più del normale prima di procedere con la vendemmia, in modo da permettere alle vigne di completare il loro lavoro: l’alternanza di caldo e di piogge delle ultime settimane ha fatto sì che l’uva sulle viti fosse di ottima qualità.

Thanks to the mild and sunny September, we decided to wait about 15 days more than normal before proceeding with the harvest, so as to allow the vines to complete their work: the alternation of heat and rain in recent weeks has meant that the grapes in the vines were of excellent quality.

Ci aspettiamo di avere, grazie alle caratteristiche di questa annata, vini ben strutturati, probabilmente meno potenti ma più equilibrati rispetto al 2017.

We expect to have, thanks to the characteristics of this year, well structured wines, probably less powerful but more balanced than in 2017.

VENDEMMIA 2017. La vite come esempio di forza, tenacia e resilienza

Mai come quest'anno sarà difficile DI-VINARE le caratteristiche del vino che berremo nel 2019, visti i numerosi capricci meteorologici che recentemente hanno flagellato l'agricoltura italiana.

Never like this year, it will be difficult to DI-WINE the characteristics of the wine we will enjoy in 2019, due to the many meteorological whims that have recently flagged Italian agriculture.

Le prime considerazioni riguardano le gelate primaverili, capaci di colpire a macchia di leopardo tutta la penisola, comprese aree difficilmente prevedibili come quelle del nord della Sardegna.
Capaci addirittura di compromettere la produzione di mele in Trentino, regione ben abituata a combattere con il gelo.

The first considerations relate to the spring frosts, capable of have a  patchy effect on the entire peninsula, including hardly predictable areas such as northern Sardinia. 
Capable of even compromising the production of apples in Trentino, a region well accustom to fight with the frost.

La seconda decade di Aprile si è aperta con temperature particolarmente elevate e superiori alle medie del periodo, anche oltre 5 gradi per quanto riguarda le massime.
Pochi giorni dopo, invece, si è assistito ad un graduale calo termico con i valori giornalieri che sono scesi sotto le soglie di riferimento climatologico.
La terza decade di Aprile è risultata addirittura più fredda rispetto alla media delle temperature del mese calcolate sul periodo 1981-2010.

The second decade of April opened with particularly high temperatures and higher than the averages of the period, even over 5 degrees in terms of maximum. 
A few days later, however, there has been a gradual thermal fall with daily values that have fallen below the climatic reference thresholds. 
The third decade of April was been cooler than the average temperature of the month calculated on 1981-2010.

Tutto il settore vitivinicolo ha ovviamente ha risentito pesantemente per quei giorni incredibilmente freddi. Tuttavia gli impianti più colpiti sembrano essere stati quelli più giovani, posizionati “dove la vigna non c'è mai stata”, nei fondovalle e nelle zone più umide; solo in rari casi si sono evidenziati danni nei vigneti collinari.

The whole wine sector has obviously been heavily affected by those incredibly cold days. However, the most affected plants seem to have been the younger ones, positioned "where the vineyard has never been", in the bottom valleys and wetlands; only in rare cases damage to the hilly vineyards has occurred.

Pur avendo incrementato lo stress del processo vegetativo, la nostra vigna non ha subito danni a causa di questa prima difficoltà.

Even though the stress of the vegetative process has been increased , our vineyard has not suffered any damage due to this first difficulty.

Putroppo però a seguire si è verificata una prolungata siccità accompagnata da una bassissima escursione termica giorno-notte (che non ha mai permesso alle piante ed ai grappoli di avere un po' di refrigerio) mettendo ancor più in discussione l'equilibrio metabolico della vite.

Unfortunately, however, there has been a prolonged drought accompanied by a very low thermal night-night excursion (which has never allowed the plants and bunches to have a bit of refrigeration), putting even worse the metabolic balance of the vine.

Anche in questo caso, le zone storiche di produzione del Chianti Rufina hanno beneficiato della loro posizione "in alto" e a ridosso degli appennini che ha favorito la dispersione del caldo, calmierando lievemente gli effetti della disidratazione del terreno.
Di contro, si è assistito ad attacchi più frequenti da parte degli ungulati, che non trovando acqua per via della siccità, hanno cercato di sopravvivere mangiando più frutta.

Again, the historic production areas of Chianti Rufina benefited from their "high" position close to the appennines that has favored the dispersion of the heat, slightly smoothing the effects of soil dehydration.
On the other hand, it has witnessed more frequent attacks by the ungulates, which, by not finding water due to drought, have tried to survive by eating more fruit.

Tutte le precauzioni possibili sono state prese in questa fase: un pò di irrigazione di soccorso ma soprattutto il mantenimento di una folta fogliatura nel filare che ha naturalmente schermato i grappoli dall'eccessiva esposizione ai raggi solari.

All possible precautions were taken at this stage: a bit of rescue irrigation but above all the maintenance of a thick foliage in the thread that naturally shielded bunches from excessive exposure to sunlight.

La prolungata mancanza di acqua all'interno della pianta, ha provocato una maggiore concentrazione di zuccheri e rallentato la maturazione polifenolica.
Fortunatamente il processo di maturazione si è completato dopo le prime piogge di settembre.

The prolonged lack of water inside the plant caused a higher concentration of sugars and slowed polyphenol maturation.
Fortunately the maturing process was completed after the first rains in September.

E' stato necessario attendere ben 15 giorni più del normale prima di procedere con la vendemmia, in modo da permettere alle vigne di completare il loro lavoro.
Il risultato finale di questa stagione così incerta è comunque buono.

It has been necessary to wait 15 days longer than normal before proceeding with the harvest, so that the vineyards could complete their work.
The end result of this season so uncertain is still good.

Le uve che abbiamo raccolto erano sane e di ottima qualità, ovviamente escludendo la perdita dei grappoli avvizziti. Il rendimento complessivo ha subito un calo del circa il 10%. Alla svinatura abbiamo intravisto un prodotto di un rosso vivo, ricco di essenze. Il grado alcolico dell'annata sarà sicuramente alto, come la qualità del nostro prodotto.
Per valorizzare la bassa produzione, per l'annata 2017 sarà molto importante il lavoro di affinamento in cantina.

The grapes we harvested were healthy and of good quality, of course excluding the loss of clusters of too dry grapes. Overall performance fell by about 10%. At the time of the racking, we saw a product of a beatiful red, rich in essences. The alcoholic grade of the vintage will surely be high, as the quality of our product.
In order to exploit the low production, the aging work in the cellar will be very important for the year 2017.

Considerando che alcune aziende hanno perso anche il 30% o addirittura il 50% della produzione complessiva, ci possiamo ritenere graziati. Non possiamo che ammirare come esempio di forza, tenacia e resilienza la nostra preziosa vigna vecchia del Podere il Pozzo.

Considering that some companies have lost even 30% or even 50% of total production, we may feel lucky. We can only admire as an example of strength, tenacity and resilience our precious old vineyard of the Podere il Pozzo.

VENDEMMIA 2016. Vendemmia da Tiffany

Ad un passo dalla vigna siamo rimasti sospesi,  in ammirazione del perfetto lavoro svolto da Madre Natura al Podere il Pozzo.
Una sinestesia di odori e colori ha intrecciato i nostri sensi . In contemplazione della generosità e bellezza della terra, si accende il desiderio di raccogliere a piene mani quei grappoli che sembrano gioielli.
Mentre ci accingiamo a iniziare il lavoro, ci torna alla mente Audrey Hepburn davanti alla vetrina di Tiffany...

Near the vineyard, we were in suspense in admiration of the perfect job done by Mother Nature at Podere il Pozzo.
The synesthesia of smells and colors has braided our senses. In contemplation of the generosity and beauty of the land, it turns on the desire to gather handfuls of those clusters that look like jewelry.
While we are going to start work, he goes back to mind Audrey Hepburn at the window of Tiffany ...

In perfetta continuità con l'annata 2015, abbiamo avuto trovato il nostro calestro decisamente asciutto. Tuttavia, grazie alle riserva d’acqua accumulata durante questo inverno e primavera assai piovosi, le piante hanno avuto una vegetazione sana, senza alcun tipo di stress.
Durante l'estate, temperature mai eccessivamente elevate e buone escursioni termiche durante la notte hanno fatto in modo di rimarcare quel carattere leggendario del frutto raccolto nel Chianti Rufina.
La resa del frutto è stata regolare, grazie a qualche pioggia di fine agosto, mai violenta e seguita da bellissime giornate di sole, calde e ventilate. Ottime condizioni per completare la maturazione del nostro Sangiovese.

In perfect continuity with the year 2015, we had found our galestro very dry. However, thanks to the water reserve accumulated during this winter and this spring very rainy, the plants have had a healthy vegetation, without any kind of stress.
During the summer, temperatures are never too high and good temperature during the night made sure to point out the legendary character of the fruit harvest in the Chianti Rufina.
The yield of the fruit is regular, thanks to some rain in late August, never violent, followed by beautiful sunny days, hot and windy. Very good conditions to complete the maturation of our Sangiovese.

Osservando gli acini perfettamente sani e privi di qualsiasi traccia di muffa, ricoperti da quel prezioso strato opaco biancastro, la pruina, che ne impedisce l'eccessiva disidratazione e aiuta a trattenere i microorganismi necessari alla fermentazione del mosto. La buccia intatta fornirà al vino sostanze coloranti come gli antociani e i flavoni, il tannino nobile, i lieviti (saccaromiceti) e gli aromi (terpeni).

Observing the perfectly healthy grapes and free from all traces of mold, covered with that precious white opaque layer, the bloom, which prevents excessive dehydration and helps to retain the microorganisms necessary for fermentation. The peel intact will provide the coloring matter to the wine, as the anthocyanins and the flavones, the noble tannins, the yeast (Saccharomyces) and the aromas (terpenes).

I vinaccioli, che non sono altro che i semi della vite, sono regolarmente presenti con il loro carico di sostanze antiossidanti (polifenoli).

The vinaccioli, that are no more than the seeds of the vine, are regularly present with their load of antioxidant substances (polyphenols).

Un ulteriore risultato incoraggiante per il nostro percorso verso la certificazione di vino biologico che non resta priva di insidie. Per esempio, quest'anno abbiamo subito diversi danni da incursioni di branchi di cinghiali. Questo flagello che ha colpito negli ultimi anni moltissimi agricoltori toscani, è oggetto di una contesa politica molto accesa. Appelli alla Regione sono stati lanciati da Coldiretti e anche dalla neonata Avito, l'associazione che riunisce tutti i consorzi vinicoli della Toscana, in modo da partire con la piena attuazione della legge obiettivo contro l'emergenza degli ungulati (presenza quattro volte superiore alla media nazionale).

Another encouraging result for our path towards the certification of organic wine that does not remain without pitfalls. For example, this year we have suffered some damage due to other incursions of wild boar herds. This scourge that hit in recent years many Tuscan farmers, is the subject of a very heated political contest. Appeals to the Region were launched by Coldiretti and also by the fledgling Avitus , the association that brings together all the wine consortia of Tuscany, so starting with the full implementation of the objective law against the emergency of the ungulates (presence four times higher than average national).

 

Tentando di DI-VINARE il vino che berremo nel 2018, possiamo immaginare un carattere sontuoso e vellutato con enormi potenzialità di affinamento. I valori di zucchero e di acidità sono in linea con quelli delle migliori annate degli ultimi 50 anni. I profumi potenti che abbiamo avuto modo di assaporare durante la pigiatura dell'uva fanno sperare nello sviluppo di aromi vellutati tendenti alla frutta a bacca rossa (ciliegia, mora, uva spina).  Probabilmente si otterrà una gradazione alcolica tra i 12 e i 13 gradi. Le alte quantità di tannini permetteranno di confezionare ottime riserve e rinnovare la naturale longevità tipica del Chianti Rufina.

Trying to di-Wine the wine that we'll drink in 2018, we can imagine a sumptuous and velvety character with enormous potential of aging. The sugar and acidity values are in line with those of the best vintages of the last 50 years. The powerful scents that we got to enjoy during the crushing of grapes give hope in the development of a velvety aroma tending to red fruits (cherry, blackberry, gooseberry). Probably you will get an alcohol content between 12 and 13 degrees. The high amount of tannins will allow to pack good reserves and renew the natural typical longevity of Chianti Rufina.

Vendemmia 2015. Gioielli di Uva che brillano in vigna

Si rinnova l'antico rito della vendemmia che per una cantina vinicola rappresenta il momento più significativo di un intero anno di lavoro.

Avvicinandoci ai filari del podere Il Pozzo, la nostra zona di produzione, veniamo avvolti dall'intenso profumo di uva matura, che già dal primo sguardo ci conquista con la sua magnifica regolarità di forme dei grappoli e la feconda corposità dei singoli acini. Questa vendemmia sarà speciale sia per la quantità sia per la qualità dei frutti raccolti.


It renews the ancient ritual of the harvest that is the most significant moment of a full year of work for a winery.

Approaching to the rows of the farm Il Pozzo, our production area, we are surrounded by the heady scent of ripe grapes, that at first sight captivates us with the magnificent regularity of the shapes of the clusters and the fullness of the individual berry. This harvest will be special for both the quantity and the quality of the fruits.

La pruina, polvere cerosa che ricopre la buccia, disegna simpatici motivetti sulla superficie del chicco, senza traccie di muffa, proteggendo tutte le preziose sostanze coloranti, aromatiche e tanniche che impreziosiranno il vino.

The bloom, waxy powder that covers the skin, draws funny signs on the surface of the berry, with no traces of mildew, protecting the precious substances that will enrich the color, aroma and tannic of the wine.

La salute delle piante ha tratto beneficio da un inverno regolare che ha portato per brevi periodi la temperatura sotto lo zero. Questo aspetto è stato, tra l'altro, molto favorevole per i nostri olivi in quanto ha permesso di limitare la nascita di mosche e parassiti che avrebbero impedito una buona qualità di olio. 

The health of the plant   has benefited from a regular winter that led, in some periods, the temperature below freezing. This aspect has been, among other things, very favorable for our olives in that it allowed to limit the birth of flies and parasites which would have prevented a good quality of oil.

Ricordiamo che la mattina del 5 marzo 2015 venti di burrasca con raffiche di fortunale hanno interessato gran parte della Toscana provocando ingenti danni tra cui alberi abbattuti, tetti scoperchiati e cartelli stradali divelti.
I sensori meteo hanno registrato raffiche di vento di 159 km/h sul Passo del Giogo (880 m, provincia di Firenze) e 130 km/h presso l'aereoporto di Peretola a Firenze; fortunatamente Rufina è stata risparmiata da questo fenomeno meteorologico particolarmente violento. 

Recall that on the morning of March 5, 2015 strong winds with gusts of gale have affected much of Tuscany, causing extensive damage, including downed trees, roofs  and road signs uprooted .
The weather sensors recorded wind gusts of 159 km/h on the Giogo Pass (880 m, near Florence) and 130 km/h at the airport of Peretola in Florence; Rufina was fortunately spared from this weather phenomenon particularly violent.

La primavera non si è fatta aspettare e già dai primi giorni di aprile un sole mite e costante ha risvegliato l'attività vegetale e favorito la nascita di numerose infiorescenze. Le piogge, perfettamente in linea con l'andamento stagionale, hanno fornito il giusto apporto di acqua necessario all'evoluzione dei grappoli.

Il passaggio dalla primavera all'estate ha progressivamente aumentato le temperature giornaliere e non ci sono state brusche impennate di caldo tra maggio e giugno.


The spring was not long to wait, and since the first days of April, a mild sun and constant  has awakened the activity of the vines and favored the birth of numerous inflorescences. The rains, perfectly in line with the seasonal trend, have provided the right amount of water necessary to the evolution of the bunches.

With the transition from spring to summer the daily temperatures has gradually increased and there were sharp rises of hot between May and June.

Luglio e agosto hanno contribuito ad elevare la qualità dell'uva grazie a numerosi sbalzi di temperatura anche di 10 gradi. Un sole rovente ha portato le temperature diurne addirittura oltre i 40°C che sono state generalmente abbassate nelle ore notturne da regolari brezze estive che caratterizzano il nostro territorio adiacente ai rilievi appenninici.  

July and August have helped to raise the quality of grapes through numerous changes of temperature, also of 10 degrees. A hot sun brought daytime temperatures even over 40°C that have been generally lowered at night by regular summer breezes that characterize our territory adjacent to the Apennines.

Alcuni fenomeni temporaleschi molto violenti si sono registrati durante l'estate nella provincia di Firenze anche con grandinate che potevano essere devastanti per le culture; anche in questo caso fortunatamente Rufina non ha registrato danni.

Some very violent storms were recorded during the summer in the province of Florence, with hail that could be devastating for the cultures; also in this case fortunately Rufina has not registered damages.
  

Arrivati a settembre osserviamo tanta uva, perfettamente maturata, senza la minima traccia di muffe o imperfezioni, tanto da anticipare la raccolta di qualche giorno rispetto agli anni precedenti. Un ottimo risultato che incoraggia il nostro percorso verso la certificazione di agricoltura biologica, che averemo modo di trattare più dettagliatamente in altri post.

Arrived in September, we observe our grapes, perfectly matured, with no trace of mold or imperfections, much to anticipate the collection of a few days than in previous years. A great result that encourages our path toward certification of organic farming, which we will deal in more detail in other posts in future.

Tentando di DI-VINARE il vino che berremo nel 2017, possiamo immaginare un carattere importante con enormi potenzialità di affinamento. Probabilmente si otterrà una gradazione alcolica superiore alla media. Le alte quantità di tannini permetteranno di confezionare ottime riserve e rinnovare la tradizione del Chianti Rufina: vini caratterizzati da profumi complessi ed espressivi e, naturalmente, incredibilmente longevi.

Trying to predict the wine that we will drink in 2017, we can imagine a wine with an important character with enormous potential of aging. Probably you will get an alcohol content higher than average. The high amount of tannins will allow to pack good reserves and renew the tradition of the Chianti Rufina wines with complex aromas and expressive and, of course, incredibly long-lasting.

XL Bacco Artigiano. Appunti e spunti del dopo Bacco

Il Bacco Artigiano 2015 è stata una giostra di eventi e spettacoli che ha reso onore alla speciale ricorrenza dei suoi 40 anni.

The Bacco Artigiano 2015 was a carousel of events and shows that honored the special occasion of his 40 years.

Questa festa agricola, tradizionalmente svolta a fine settembre,  riunisce tutti gli abitanti di Rufina e dintorni  per celebrare la raccolta dell'uva. Come per gli antichi ditirambi, la festa riunisce poesia, musica ed arte che, in egual misura,  sono tutte volte alla celebrazione della vendemmia. Ma in questa particolare ricorrenza l'antico dio Bacco viene raffigurato anche come "Artigiano" perché incarna l'identità del territorio che rinnova la sua naturale vocazione nel trasformare il mestiere del viticoltore in arte.

This rural festival, traditionally held in late September, brings together all the inhabitants of Rufina and surroundings to celebrate the grape harvest. Like the ancient dithyrambs, the festival brings together poetry, music and art in equal measure, all aimed at the celebration of the harvest. But on this particular occasion the ancient god Bacchus is depicted as "Artisan" because it embodies the identity of the territory renewing its natural focus on transforming the craft of the grower into art.

A qualche settimana di distanza dalla manifestazione vogliamo focalizzare sul nostro blog i punti di forza e debolezza di questa festa che, se opportunamente valorizzata può, negli anni avvenire, divenire uno strumento strategico di immagine nella promozione internazionale della nostra azienda.

A few weeks away from the event we want to focus on our blog the strengths and weakness of this event that, if properly exploited, can, in the coming years, become a strategic tool in promoting the international image of our company.

Un gran pregio di questa edizione è la rinnovata unità e partecipazione dei membri del Consorzio.
La quasi totalità delle aziende produttrici del Chianti Rufina si sono riunite nella sede storica della Villa di Poggio Reale per accogliere i visitatori e far sfoggio dei loro grandi vini.
A tal proposito, merita una menzione speciale, la degustazione guidata dal sommelier Alessandro Oddo dell'A.I.S. Firenze che ha svolto un'interessantissima lezione sulle note sensoriali dei vini presentati alla manifestazione.

A great result of this edition is the renewed unity and participation of the members of the Consortium.
Almost all manufacturers of the Chianti Rufina gathered in the historical site of the Villa di Poggio Reale to welcome visitors and show off their great wines.
In this regard, it deserves a special mention, the tasting led by the sommelier Alessandro Oddo of the A.I.S. Florence, which has played a very interesting lecture on the sensory notes of the wines presented at the event.

L'area circostante la Villa è stata sfruttata meglio delle edizioni precedenti, ospitando una serie di spettacoli nelle ore diurne che hanno avvicinato un pubblico eterogeneo anche ai banchi di degustazione. L'alternanza degli eventi è stata organizzata però con troppe ore di differenza tra l'uno e l'altro. Durante questo tempo il parco è rimasto "silenzioso e tranquillo" e abbiamo assistito all'inevitabile dispersione dei visitatori.

The area surrounding the Villa has been exploited better than previous editions, hosting a series of events during all the day and approaching a diverse audience also to the tasting stands. The alternation of the events was organized with too many hours of difference between one and the other. During this time the park has remained "quiet and peaceful" and we have seen the inevitable dispersion of the visitors.

La soluzione più semplice sarebbe quella di concentrare tutti gli eventi nel perimetro della villa. Mercatino, stand di degustazione, le mostre di arte e un grande palco dove si avvicendano musica, teatro e danza potrebbero creare una sinergia positiva per realizzare una concreta continuità di intrattenimento che aumenterebbe notevolmente la partecipazione alla festa.

The simplest solution would be to concentrate all the events in the perimeter of the Villa. The market, the tasting stands, the art exhibitions and a large stage where alternate music, theater and dance could create a positive synergy to achieve a concrete continuity of entertainment that would greatly increase the participation in the festival.

Per arricchire l'accoglienza di tutti gli stand del Bacco, riuniti in un unico luogo, basterebbe organizzare delle animazioni cicliche come piccoli cortei storici con sbandieratori, la banda musicale, stage culinari e degustazioni guidate.

To enrich the reception of all stands of the event, gathered in one place, it would be enough organize events cyclical as small pageants with flag bearers, local bands, culinary stage and  tastings.

Con l'avvicinarsi della notte, Spruzzi, Fuochi e Profumi purpurei hanno colorato il cielo vinoso di Rufina.
L'idea di allestire uno spettacolo di fontane danzanti ed uno spettacolo pirotecnico è stata buona ma purtroppo si sono rivelati entrambe tipologie di spettacolo cono una durata troppo limitata.

With the approach of night, Spray, Fireworks and purple Fragrances have colored the sky vinous Rufina.
The idea of putting on a show of dancing fountains and a fireworks show was good but unfortunately turned out to be both types of show that lasts not enough long.

Terminati gli spettacoli serali, l'elegante enoteca a cielo aperto è rimasta silente ma comunque  invasa da gruppi di giovani che avevano scelto di passare il sabato sera in nostra compagnia
Un semplice Dj set resident sarebbe bastato a sfruttare l'ampio spazio per ballare in libertà e sarebbe stato sicuramente apprezzato.   

After his evening shows, the stylish wine bar remained silent but invaded by groups of young people who had chosen to spend the Saturday evening in our company
A simple DJ set resident would be enough to take advantage of the ample space to dance freely and would be sure appreciated.










Una nota di merito va al nostro nuovo vino Am@Uz che finalmente si è palesato davanti al popolo della Val di Sieve, riscuotendo notevoli apprezzamenti soprattutto tra i ragazzi. Non sarebbe poi così inappropriato invitare l'artista Maurizio Baccili a esporre le sue numerose opere in una delle edizioni future.

A note of credit goes to our new wine of the line Am@uZ which eventually has been tasted by the people of the Val di Sieve, risquotendo considerable appreciation, especially among young. It would not be so inappropriate to invite the artist Maurizio Baccili to expose his many works in one of the future editions.

Bacco Artigiano 2015 ha a disposizione un enorme potenziale. Pur essendoci tutti gli ingredienti  per un evento che può attirare molto pubblico, anche dalle aree metropolitane limitrofe, sembra che manchi ancora qualcosa per "cucinare" al meglio questi elementi ed ottenere quel "rinnovamento" di cui tanto in questi ultimi anni si è parlato.

Bacco Artigiano 2015 provides a huge potential. There are all the ingredients for an event that can attract a large audience, even from neighboring metropolitan area, yet it's lacking something to "cook" all these elements and get that "renewal" of which so much in recent years there has been talk.

È stata inaugurata questo pomeriggio la quarantesima edizione del Bacco Artigiano. Per celebrare questa importante ricorrenza, che quest’anno si unisce anche ai 100 anni dalla nascita del comune di Rufina, questo pomeriggio sono stati consegnati riconoscimenti ad alcune persone che hanno collaborato alla realizzazione della manifestazione.

CHIANTI RUFINA: intervista al presidente del Consorzio

Vendemmia 2014 - Uva carica di forza vitale.

E' tempo di vendemmia!
Ecco il momento in cui si può vedere il frutto di tutte le accortezze che abbiamo prestato alla vigna e cogliere la nostra uva.

It's time to harvest! 
That's the moment when we can see the result of all the precautions we've had to our vineyard and pick our grapes.

Sul blog non abbiamo mai parlato dei risultati ottenuti nel raccolto e quest'anno vorremo iniziare a "fissare" sul nostro diario le impressioni sulla materia prima con cui verranno raffinati i vini che berremo nel futuro.

On the blog we have never spoken about the results obtained during the harvest and this year we want to start to "fix" on our diary the first impressions of the raw material with which the wines that  we will drink in the future will be refined.

Quest'anno in particolare è stato caratterizzato da un inverno mite e fresco che si è però prolungato nel tempo dando luogo ad una primavera con temperature più basse delle medie stagionali e ricca di pioggia. Senza bruschi cambiamenti meteo e abbondante apporto d'acqua, tutta la flora di Rufina si è sviluppata rigogliosa e lussureggiante.

This year has been characterized by a temperate and cool winter that extended over time, giving rise to a spring with lower temperatures than the seasonal average and plenty of rain. Without abrupt changes in weather and with abundant supply of water, the whole flora of Rufina grew lush and luxuriant.

Sono stati necessari interventi straordinari di potatura per eliminare il fogliame in eccesso che avrebbe coperto troppo i frutti dall'esposizione solare, rallentandone la maturazione. I fattori ambientali e la salute delle piante sono determinanti per far crescere un buon uvaggio e solo il costante controllo delle vigne permette di minimizzare i capricci stagionali, guidare la crescita dei grappoli e portarli alla giusta maturazione.

Extraordinary measures of pruning were needed to eliminate the excess foliage that would cover too much the fruit from sun exposure, slowing aging. The environmental factors and plant health are critical to growing a good blend and only the constant control of the vineyards allows to minimize the seasonal whims, driving the growth of the grapes and bring them to the right ripeness.

Anche l'estate è stata atipica e intermittente. I numerosi temporali estivi abbattutisi su tutta Italia non hanno fortunatamente compromesso l'uva. Il microclima della nostra località è influenzato da costanti dolci brezze che hanno aiutato ad asciugare velocemente i frutti, impedendo il proliferare di muffe.

Also the summer was atypical and intermittent. The many summer storms that hit across Italy fortunately did not compromise our grapes. The microclimate of our locations is influenced by constant gentle breezes that helped the fruit to dry quickly, preventing the proliferation of mildew.

Fortunatamente la straordinaria grandinata che il 19 settembre ha inferto tantissimi danni alla città di Firenze non è arrivata fino al comune di Rufina. Il caldo sole di fine estate ha addolcito il sapore dell'uva, elevandone il grado zuccherino e, al momento del raccolto, il prodotto finale è risultato di buona qualità.

Fortunately, the extraordinary storm that September 19 has inflicted many damages to the city of Florence has not come up to the town of Rufina. The warm late summer sun has softened the flavor of the grapes, raising its sugar level and, at harvest time, the final product was of good quality.

Dentro ogni chicco si concentrano tutti gli elementi che concorrono alla nascita di un grande vino: i profumi dell'aria di campagna, il nutrimento della terra dell'appennino toscano, la vigorosa forza vitale dell'acqua sorgiva e l'energia del sole.

Inside each grape are concentrate all the elements that contribute to the birth of a great wine: the fragrance of the air campaign, the nourishment of the earth of the Tuscan Apennines, the vigorous life force of the spring water and the sun's energy.

Tentando di DI-VINARE il Chianti Rufina che berremo nel 2016, possiamo immaginare un carattere morbido con esaltanti sensazioni aromatiche speziate e fiorite. Solo con paziente lavoro in cantina questa idea diventerà una saporita realtà.

Try to DI-WINE the Chianti Rufina that we'll drink in 2016, we can imagine a smooth character with exciting sensations aromatic spicy and floral. Only by patient work in the winery this idea become a really flavor.
