WORLD TOUR 2016 - Boca Raton

La quarta tappa ci porta a Boca Raton, la città più meridionale della contea di Palm Beach.
Il nome trae origine dalla definizione che veniva data alla zona nelle antiche mappe spagnole all’estuario del fiume Reef. “Boca” significa infatti “sbocco” mentre  la parola "ratones" si riferiva alle aspre rocce taglienti presenti sul fondo del mare lungo quel tratto di costa.

The fourth stage takes us to Boca Raton, the southernmost city in Palm Beach County.
The name derives from the definition that was given to the area in the ancient Spanish maps to the estuary of the River Reef. "Boca" means "estuary" while the word "ratones" was referring to the rugged sharp rocks on the bottom of the sea along that stretch of coast.

La città di Boca Raton ha origini molto antiche: nata piccolo villaggio della tribù Tequesta, popolo di nativi americani della costa sud-atlantica della Florida, fu in seguito colonizzata dagli spagnoli.

The city of Boca Raton has very ancient origins: born like a small village of Tequesta tribe, the people of Native Americans of the South Atlantic coast of Florida, was later colonized by the Spanish.

Rimasta per lungo tempo solo un piccolo centro abitato, vede la sua espansione durante il boom del 1920, quando diversi investitori si mostrarono interessati a trasformare Boca Raton in una località turistica. Furono costruiti edifici amministrativi e un piccolo albergo per ospitare gli investitori interessati. Il Ritz-Carlton Cloister Inn, costruito nel 1926, in seguito ribattezzato Boca Raton Resort & Club, è uno dei pochi alberghi a 5 stelle situati in Florida.

Remained for a long time only a small town, sees its expansion during the boom of 1920, when several investors showed interest in transforming Boca Raton in a tourist resort. They were built some administrative buildings and a small hotel to accommodate interested investors. The Ritz-Carlton Cloister Inn, built in 1926, later renamed Boca Raton Resort & Club, is one of the few 5-star hotels are located in Florida.

Durante la seconda guerra mondiale, gran parte dei terreni agricoli circostanti Boca Raton furono utilizzati come sede del Boca Raton Army Air Force Base per i bombardieri e gli operatori radar. Oggi l’area ospita la base della Florida Atlantic University e molti dei parcheggi sono ex piste della base aerea!

During World War II, much of the surrounding farmland Boca Raton was used as headquarters of the Boca Raton Army Air Force Base for the bomber crews and radar operators. Today the area is home to the base of the Florida Atlantic University and many of the parking lots are former runways of the air base!

Alla fine del 1960, l'International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) ha annunciato l'intenzione di aprire un impianto di produzione nella zona IBM. L’imponente complesso industriale ha mantenuto attive le sue strutture fino al 1996, quando l'impianto è stato chiuso. Oggi, T-REX ha trasformato l’intera struttura e le sue realizzando un parco commerciale e di ricerca.

In the late 1960s, the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) has announced their intentions to open a manufacturing plant in the area. The massive industrial complex has kept active its structures until 1996, when the plant was closed. Today, T-REX has revitalized the facility and its surrounding real estate into a business/research park.

Boca Raton rappresenta una delle comunità più ricche nel sud della Florida ed è considerata una delle principali città della zona metropolitana di Miami.
Solo per fare alcuni esempi, Boca Raton è sede, oltre che del campus principale della Florida Atlantic University, della Centrale di Office Depot e ADT e anche del Tennis Academy Evert. Il Town Center Mall, un centro commerciale di lusso a West Boca Raton, è il più grande centro commerciale al coperto della Contea di Palm Beach.

Boca Raton is one of the richest communities in South Florida and is considered one of the major cities in the Miami metropolitan area.
Just to give some examples, Boca Raton is home, in addition to the main campus of Florida Atlantic University, the Central Office Depot and ADT and also of the Evert Tennis Academy. The Town Center Mall, an upscale shopping center in West Boca Raton, is the largest indoor shopping center of Palm Beach County.

Molti edifici della zona hanno uno stile architettonico particolare, che ricorda il coloniale spagnolo, ispirato da Addison Mizner, architetto che ha influenzato stilisticamente lo sviluppo della città. Ancora oggi, Boca Raton ha un codice regolamentare rigoroso per quanto riguarda le dimensioni ed i tipi di edifici commerciali, per la progettazione di nuove lottizzazioni e addirittura per la scelta delle tipologie di pubblicità che possono essere erette entro i confini della città.

Many buildings in the area have a particular architectural style, reminiscent of the Spanish colonial manner, inspired by Addison Mizner, an architect who has influenced stylistically the development of the city. Even today, Boca Raton has a strict regulatory code regarding the size and types of commercial buildings, for the design of new planning areas and even for the choice of the types of advertising that can be erected within the boundaries of cities.

La linea Mamb-O è decisamente più orientata a un pubblico giovane mentre la linea classica Cantine Bellini e Podere "Il Pozzo" è consigliabile per palati raffinati. Non dobbiamo dimenticare che tutti questi vini sono confezionati dalle stesse sapienti mani e promossi da un'azienda certificata (e premiata ) per la sua qualità.

At the stand tasting, the bottles that are deployed represent wines with different targets. The Mamb-O line is definitely more geared to a younger audience while the classic line Cantine Bellini and the Podere "Il Pozzo" is recommended for refined palates. We must not forget that all these wines are packaged by the same expert hands and promoted by a certified (and rewarded) for its quality.

WORLD TOUR 2016 - Boynton

Dopo una breve pausa ci spostiamo, sempre verso sud, a Boynton Beach.

After a short break we go, always heading south, to Boynton Beach.

Nel 1894, prima ancora che fosse costruita la ferrovia che ancora oggi serve la città, un ex militare della Guerra civile americana di nome Nathan Boynton, rimase affascinato da questa località, che ancora oggi porta il suo nome.

In 1894, before it was built the railroad that still serves the city, a former American Civil War major named Nathan Boynton first set eyes on the area that now bears his name.

Proveniente da Port Huron, in Michigan, rimase così impressionato dalla bellezza naturale, dal clima favorevole e dalle bellissime spiagge incontaminate, che decise di trasferirsi e di investire tutti i suoi averi nella costruzione di un albergo, il famoso Boynton Hotel. I primi coloni, che Boynton portò con sé dal Michigan, ben presto si resero conto dell’eccezionale fertilità del terreno e degli ottimi prodotti che se ne potevano ricavare.

Boynton hailed from Port Huron, Michigan, was so impressed by the natural beauty, the pleasant climate and the beautiful unspoilt beaches, that decided to move and invest all his possessions in the construction of a hotel, the famous Boynton Hotel. The first settlers, whom Boynton had brought along from Michigan, soon realized that many fruits and vegetables thrived in the fertile climate.

Con la fine della realizzazione della Air Line Railway si incrementò moltissimo lo sviluppo del territorio circostante il piccolo abitato di Boyton e i terreni divennero sempre più preziosi, con il conseguente ampliamento dell’insediamento residenziale.

With the end of the realization of the Air Line Railway, the development of the area surrounding the original small village increased greatly and the land became more valuable, resulting in the residential settlement expansion.

A ovest, si sviluppò anche un’area industriale, con molti caseifici, tanto che la zona divenne il fornitore principale di latte della Contea di Palm Beach. Dal 1970, i caseifici divennero sempre meno redditizi e quasi tutti i complessi produttivi furono demoliti o convertiti in abitazioni.

To the west, many dairies were founded so that the Boynton area became the main milk supplier for Palm Beach County. By the 1970s, the dairies were no longer profitable and almost all production complexes were demolished or converted into housing.

Elemento caratterizzante Boynton Beach è l’Oceanfront Park, che si trova appena a nord del sito originale del Boynton Hotel: realizzato nel 1920, ha da subito attratto l’attenzione di residenti e visitatori. A metà degli anni '90 il parco ha subito un rinnovamento importante che ha rivalorizzato l’intera area tanto che nel 2001 è stato votato come la miglior spiaggia per famiglie di tutta il Palm Beach.

The Boynton Beach characteristic element is the Oceanfront Park, which is located just north of the original Boynton Hotel site: from the 1920s to today, Boynton Beach Oceanfront Park has been popular with residents and visitors alike. In the mid-90s, the park has undergone a major renovation that has reclaimed the entire area so much that in 2001 he was voted as the best beach for families across Palm Beach.

Nel banco di assaggio principale del negozio abbiamo potuto disporre di un'ottima visibilità ed essere effettivamente al centro dell'attenzione dei clienti.

Ci sentiamo un pò come dei fiabeschi guardiani di un liquido tesoro; questo è lo spirito con cui viene svolto il nostro presidio nei negozi che stiamo visitando.
Gli incontri con i clienti Total Wine non vengono svolti da un semplice rappresentante o venditore ma da un vero artigiano del vino: un custode di antiche tradizioni contadine e contemporaneamente un interprete del gusto del nostro tempo.

In the main expositive stand of taste of the store we could have had a good visibility, effectively to customer focus.

We felt a bit like the fairy guardians of a treasure liquid; this is the spirit in which we conduct our garrison in stores we are visiting.
The meetings with clients of the Total Wine stores shall not be performed by a simple representative or seller but by a true craftsman of the wine: a keeper of ancient traditions and simultaneously an interpreter of the taste of our time.

La nostra degustazione proposta ai clienti trae la sua enfasi dall'amore per la terra, dalla pazienza di seguire l'andamento stagionale, dalla cura della vigna e poi dalla creatività nell'ideare il vino in cantina, che come il tessuto che, nelle sapienti mani del sarto, diventa abito elegante e talvolta raffinato.

Our tasting offered to customers draws its emphasis from the love for the land, the patience to follow the seasonal trend, from the care of the vineyard and then by the creativity in designing the wine in the cellar, that as the tissues that, in the wise hands of the tailor, become elegant and sometimes refined dresses.

E' facile creare una speciale empatia con i visitatori del negozio, appassionarli con il nostro entusiasmo e far apprezzare la qualità dei nostri prodotti. Troviamo molto interessante che diversi visitatori ci chiedano suggerimenti per ricette e accostamenti gastronomici da proporre col nostro vino.

Vista la location marina è stata anche un'occasione perfetta per confrontarci sull'utilizzo del limoncello nei cocktail da spiaggia ( proporremo prossimamente qualche idea per un aperitivo rinfrescante).
Un particolare ringraziamento va anche al personale di questo punto vendita: molto cordiale e disponibile.

It's easy to create a special empathy with the visitors of the shop, make them excited by our enthusiasm and appreciate the quality of our products. We find it very interesting that many visitors ask us suggestions for recipes and food combinations to offer with our wine.

Thanks of the marina location, it was also a perfect opportunity to confront the use of the limoncello in the beach's cocktail (shortly, we'll propose some ideas for a refreshing aperitif).
A special thanks also goes to the staff of this selling point: very friendly and helpful.

SFIZIOSE RICETTE: Crostata alla crema di arance

Con l'arrivo del freddo vi proponiamo una ricetta con un frutto di stagione: le arance! Si tratta di una crostata con una crema al succo di arancia, molto leggera e semplice da preparare, adatta come dolce di fine pasto.

With the arrival of the cold we offer a recipe with a seasonal fruit: the oranges! It is a cake with cream to orange juice, very light and easy to prepare, suitable as a sweet end of the meal.

Ingredienti                                                                Ingredients
Per la pasta frolla:                                                   For the shortbread:
250 gr di farina                                                        250 gr of flour
100 gr di zucchero                                                 100 gr of sugar
125 gr di burro                                                        125 gr of butter
2 uova                                                                     2 eggs
un pizzico di lievito per dolci                                   a pinch of baking powder
un pizzico di sale                                                    a pinch of salt

Per la crema:                                                          For the cream:
2 uova                                                                     2 eggs
150 gr di zucchero                                                 150 gr of sugar
35 gr di burro                                                          35 gr of butter
2 o 3 arance non trattate                                        2 o 3 oranges untreated
100 gr di cioccolato fondente per decorare           100 gr of dark chocolate to decorate
10 dl di latte                                                            10 dl of milk

Preparazione:                                                         Preparation:

Per prima cosa preparare la pasta frolla. Mescolare bene le uova con lo zucchero e un pizzico di sale, quindi incorporare il burro fuso (fare attenzione che non sia troppo caldo per non rischiare di cuocere le uova), la farina setacciata e un pizzico di lievito per dolci. Lavorare bene in modo da amalgamare tutti gli ingredienti, quindi lasciar riposare in frigo per una mezz’ora.
Stendere la pasta frolla in una teglia di circa 30 cm di diametro, avendo cura di creare un bordo piuttosto alto.

First prepare the shortbread. Mix the eggs with the sugar and a pinch of salt, then stir in the melted butter (make sure it is not too hot to avoid the risk of cook the eggs), flour and a pinch of baking powder. Work well to mix all ingredients, then let stand in refrigerator for half an hour.
Spread the shortbread in a baking pan of about 30 cm in diameter, taking care to create a border rather high.

Lavare bene le arance e grattarne la scorza, un pò fine e un pò grossolana, e mettere da parte.

Wash the oranges and grate zest, a little small and a little coarse, and set aside.

Spremere le arance.                                                            Squeeze the oranges.

In un pentolino, sul fuoco a fiamma bassa, sbattere le uova con lo zucchero e il burro. Quindi aggiungere tutto il succo d’arancia e mescolare fintanto che gli ingredienti siano ben amalgamati, per almeno 5 minuti. 

Versare la crema (che rimarrà molto liquida) nella tortiera e mettere in forno già riscaldato a 180° per mezz’ora.

In a small saucepan, over low heat, whisk the eggs with the sugar and butter. Then add all the orange juice and mix until the ingredients are well blended, for at least 5 minutes.

Pour the cream (which remain very liquid) into the baking pan and place in preheated oven at 180° for half an hour.

Sfornare la torta e lasciar raffreddare in modo che la crema si rapprenda completamente.

Quando è ben fredda (anche dopo qualche ora) si può procedere con la decorazione. Sciogliere il cioccolato in un pentolino con un pochino di latte, per non rischiare che si attacchi sul fondo, quindi lasciar freddare. Versare il cioccolato fuso sulla torta: si può scegliere se ricoprirla completamente o creare dei disegni sulla superficie. Lasciar freddare il cioccolato e quindi cospargerlo con la scorza d’arancia.

Remove from the oven and let the cake cool so that the cream congeals completely.

When it is cold (even after some hours), you can proceed with the decoration. Melt the chocolate in a saucepan with a little milk, so that the chocolate not stick to the bottom, then let cool. Pour the melted chocolate on the cake: you can choose to cover it completely or create patterns on the surface. Allow the chocolate to cool and then sprinkle with the orange zest.

La crostata è ottima mangiata a temperatura ambiente e accompagnata da un bicchierino di Limoncello Cantine Bellini.

The cake is delicious if eaten at room temperature and accompanied by a glass of Limoncello Cantine Bellini.
